Built circa 1910, 1547 West Turner Street is a beautiful historic row house lovingly maintained and updated by its current owners, Alan and Michael, who purchased the home in 2021.
As you step through the front door, visitors are greeted by a stunning 3-season front porch with leaded glass windows and beautiful views of West Park. White wicker furniture and colorful contemporary paintings by local Allentown artists create a cozy and vibrant atmosphere. Above, a twin ceiling fan and white wood provide an uplifting finishing touch.
Moving into the living room, visitors find a spacious and inviting area that is arranged with two separate seating areas. One area features a dark leather Restoration Hardware sofa and complimentary furniture (including a Teddy Roosevelt safari chair), while the second boasts a modern white leather "Judy Jetson-style" sofa and chair set. The room even has enough space for a grand piano. Many of the paintings on the walls are from local Pennsylvania artists. The floors are the original patterned hardwood.
The dining room is a showstopper, boasting dramatic black walls, white trim, white chair rail, and white ceiling beams. The bay window floods the space with ample natural light, accentuating its open and airy ambiance. The room is furnished with comfortable chairs and a large extendable dining table, complemented by a sparkling crystal chandelier, and adorned with artwork sourced from art galleries in Easton, PA and New York, NY.
The kitchen combines old and new, representing a renovated space that harmoniously blends old-world charm and modern amenities. Elegant white quartz countertops elevate the kitchen's aesthetic, exuding a sense of sophistication. The center island offers ample room to prepare meals and host guests, while the diverse range of cabinetry provides abundant storage for kitchen essentials. The original back steps have been cleverly transformed into a pantry. The kitchen is bathed in natural light, further enhancing its welcoming ambiance. The wall clocks offer a glimpse into Alan's extensive collection of timepieces.
During the spring mating season, doves often build their nests in the window sills, creating a delightful connection with nature.
Exiting through the back kitchen door and ascending the stairs to the garage rooftop terrace, reveals the crown jewel of 1547 West Turner, an elevated oasis adorned with a vibrant array of potted banana trees, cannas, lilies, and annuals, creating a serene and enchanting atmosphere, an ideal setting to savor a glass of wine with friends or unwind while relishing the breathtaking views.
The terrace is furnished with comfortable patio furniture. The plants continue to flourish until September, by which time the space has transformed into a veritable jungle.
The terrace is encircled by flourishing cornstalks, nurtured from seeds sourced from Alan's ancestral farm, which has been in his family since 1863.
The two-car garage below the rooftop terrace houses six bikes, which Alan and Michael enjoy using to explore Allentown’s charming alleys and the scenic D&L Trail.
